The Bible Way Church of Sumter was originally established as The Shady Grove Bible Way Church on February 3, 1985 on South Main Street, Sumter, SC. In September 1989, the South Main Street location was destroyed by Hurricane Hugo. The property on 1765 Camden Highway was then purchased and services were held there in October 1989.
The first service in our present sanctuary was held November 24, 2002. Through the years Pastor Belton has reminded us that “God rewards faithfulness”, and we have experienced those rewards through definite increase—both in quantity and quality.
Our history is rich with anointed worship, soul-saving preaching and teaching from God’s word, and powerful manifestations of God’s glory. Our history is rich with profound moves of God resulting in deliverances from bondage, and healings from sickness, balanced with the simplicity of acts of love, kindness, and benevolence.
As we express gratitude for our past, we continue to passionately pursue further encounters and experiences with God.
The Bible Way Church of Sumter seeks to effectively minister to the “total man”. It is our desire to provide accurate and balanced teaching from God’s word and to provide an overall atmosphere that promotes a message of wholeness and truth. With God’s help, we seek to reach the lost and then establish them in the faith. We strive to accomplish this through the following:
- OUTREACH: To communicate Christ’s message through evangelism. (Acts 1:8; Matthew 8:19-20)
- FELLOWSHIP: To incorporate the community into fellowship in the body of Christ and the local church through spiritual conversion and membership.
- WORSHIP: To acknowledge, yield and surrender to, and celebrate Christ’s presence through prayer, praise and worship, and giving.
- DISCIPLESHIP: To educate Christ’s followers to maturity through sound Bible-based teaching and training for ministry. (I Peter 2:2)
- SERVICE: To demonstrate Christ’s love through compassion, kindness, and care to all people.
We believe in the One true and living God, the source of all goodness, truth and love who manifested Himself as the Father in creation, the son (Jesus Christ) in redemption, and as the Holy Ghost empowering the church.
We believe in the divine inspiration of the Holy Bible and that the word of God is the sufficient guide for our faith and practice, and the final authority for truth and salvation.
We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ, who died on the cross as the supreme sacrifice for sin; was buried in a tomb, but rose again on the third day, and is now exalted as King of Kings and Lord of Lords, and will soon return to earth with all Power and Glory.
We believe in confession and repentance of sin, water baptism by immersion in the name of Jesus Christ, and receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost. (Acts 2)
We believe in living a Christ-centered life as instructed in Philippians 2:5.
We believe in the judgment Day, when all men will stand before God to account for their lives, where the unconverted will be punished, and the true Christians will receive their just rewards.
We believe in tithing and offerings as the method of supporting the work of the Lord as ordained in Malachi 3:8-10.
We lift our hands in praise and worship because in the Bible we read, “Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the Lord.” (Psalm 134:2)
We sing with all our hearts because in the Bible we read, “Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth; make a loud noise and rejoice, and sing praise.” (Psalm 98:4)
We pray together because in the Bible we read, “They lifted up their voices with one accord…” (Acts 4:24)
