Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

At Bible Way Church of Sumter, the safety and security of our members, visitors and local communities are our utmost priority and our prayers are with those impacted by the Coronavirus.

We are closely monitoring the rapidly evolving outbreak of the COVID-19 (the coronavirus) and its impact on the community and are taking action based on guidance from public health experts, the CDC and prayer to ensure we make responsible decisions.

As a result, will be suspending our Monday Night and Wednesday Night services until further notice. As of now, OUR SUNDAY MORNING WORSHIP SERVICE WILL BE HELD AT 10:00 A.M. Sunday School classes are also cancelled. Additional updates will be communicated via our social media platforms, text alerts and our website.

Our message remains the same – follow the recommendations of our healthcare professionals, be considerate of others by checking on your neighbors, family and friends, and place your trust in God, who is our protector, healer, provider, comforter and sustainer.

Below is a communication from the Superintendent of Sumter Schools:

Per order of the Governor, all schools in Sumter School District will be closed due to the coronavirus for two weeks beginning Monday, March 16 through March 31, 2020.  All school activities are suspended.

During this time, teachers will offer an alternative pathway to learning, which is online instruction beginning Monday, March 16. Parents of students in grades first through twelve who do not have access to an electronic device may retrieve a Chromebook from their school on Monday, March 16 from 3-5 PM; Tuesday, March 17 from 8-10 AM, 12-2 PM, and 3-5 PM; and Wednesday, March 18 from 8-10 AM and 12-2 PM. Parents of prekindergarten and kindergarten students may retrieve educational packets of information during these times as well. Although online instruction begins Monday, students who do not have immediate access to a device will not be penalized. If a family does not have access to WIFI at home, they may access WIFI in the parking lots of the schools to download and submit assignments.

Sumter School District will continue to provide students with a meal during the district’s two-week closure.  Through a snatch-a-snack process, breakfast and lunch will be distributed Monday, March 16 through Friday, March 20 in the bus pick-up area at each school with breakfast available from 7 to 9 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Students must be present at the time of pick up as no food will be consumed on site. Information regarding the distribution of food the following week will be communicated.

If families experience difficulties regarding the ability to retrieve a device or a meal, please contact your school’s principal.

Please check our website at sumterschools.net and our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages for further updates.

Thank you for your cooperation and patience as we continue to work together to ensure continuity in the educational process of our children as well as the safety, health, and well-being of our students, staff, and families.

For the Children,

Dr. Penelope E. Martin-Knox
Superintendent

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

With heightened awareness and public concerns regarding the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), we want to assure you that we are carefully monitoring this situation at Bible Way Church of Sumter and are taking a proactive approach to ensure our environments are clean, safe and that your health and well-being is a top priority.

At Bible Way, we are very intentional about providing a clean and safe environment for you and your family. We have already enhanced our cleaning procedures. This includes a comprehensive cleaning of all restrooms and high touch surfaces including doorknobs, faucets, handrails, etc. We also have hand sanitizers in visible places throughout the building.

We encourage you to wash your hands frequently and to refrain from simple actions such as shaking hands, touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands. Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue. Also, if you or your children are ill, please stay home.

At this time, we are following the guidelines of the CDC and the overall risk to the general public remains low.

Pastor Belton will be preaching this Sunday and we are expecting a mighty move of God. We hope to see you this weekend. Choose FAITH over fear! 2 Timothy 1:7 says, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
